Emergency & Storm Damage Tree Service

Will a real person answer if I call at night?

Yes. A real person answers Woodgate's phone overnight. You won't get a call center or an endless voicemail loop when a tree comes down at 2 a.m.

What is considered a tree emergency?

A tree emergency is any situation where a tree or limb is damaging property, blocking access, or creating an immediate safety risk. Examples include a tree on a house, car, or fence; a fallen tree blocking a driveway; a split or uprooted tree leaning toward a home; and broken limbs hanging over walkways.

What should I do if a tree falls on my house?

Move everyone away from the damaged area. Call 911 if anyone is hurt, you smell gas, or power lines are involved. Stay clear of the tree, photograph the damage from a safe distance, notify your insurance company, and call Woodgate at 303-875-6957 to remove the tree safely.

What should I do if a tree is on a power line?

Stay away and keep children and pets back. Treat every line as energized. Call your electric utility immediately. After the utility makes the line safe, Woodgate can remove the tree and clean up the debris.

Do free estimates apply to emergency calls?

Free estimates apply to planned tree work. Emergency calls are handled differently because of the urgency and conditions involved. When you call, we'll explain how emergency service works for your situation before any work begins.

Can you remove a fallen tree blocking my driveway?

Yes. Clearing fallen trees and limbs from driveways, private roads, and access lanes is one of the most common emergency calls we handle. We cut the tree up, haul away the debris, and get you moving again.

Does homeowners insurance cover tree removal after a storm?

Homeowners insurance often helps cover tree removal when a tree damages a covered structure, like your house, garage, or fence. Policies vary, so check with your insurer. Woodgate can provide photos and a detailed invoice to support your claim.

Should I try to cut up a storm-damaged tree myself?

We don't recommend it. Storm-damaged trees often hold hidden tension in bent trunks and limbs that can spring back violently when cut. Trees near power lines or structures are especially dangerous. It's safer to call an experienced, insured tree crew.

What kinds of storms cause the most tree damage in Colorado?

Heavy, wet spring and early fall snowstorms cause much of the tree damage along Colorado's Front Range, especially when snow lands on trees that still have leaves. High winds, summer thunderstorms, and hail also break limbs and uproot trees, particularly trees already weakened by drought, insects, or decay.

Tree Removal

How much does tree removal cost in Colorado?

Tree removal cost depends on the tree's size, species, condition, location, and how easy it is to reach. A small tree in an open yard is very different from a large tree over a house. For an accurate answer, request a free on-site estimate from Woodgate at 303-875-6957.

How do I know if a tree needs to be removed?

Common signs include a dead or mostly dead canopy, a new or worsening lean, deep trunk cracks or cavities, mushrooms or fungus at the base, large dead or hanging limbs, widespread insect damage, and roots lifting hardscape. A free estimate from Woodgate will tell you whether removal or trimming is the better option.

Can you remove a tree that's very close to my house?

Yes. When there's no room to drop a tree, our crew climbs it, takes it down in controlled sections, and lowers each piece with ropes and rigging, protecting your home, roof, and fences the whole way down.

Can you remove very large trees?

Yes. Woodgate removes large cottonwoods, pines, spruce, and other big trees, including trees leaning over homes. Our crew takes them down in controlled sections using ropes and rigging, and we'll walk you through the plan at your free estimate.

Can you remove trees in a fenced backyard?

Yes. Many trees in Highlands Ranch, Parker, Castle Pines, and Castle Rock neighborhoods are in fenced backyards with narrow gates. We climb and section these trees and carry debris out by hand when needed, while protecting your yard.

Do you remove dead trees?

Yes. Dead and dying tree removal is one of our core services. Dead trees become brittle and can drop limbs or fall without warning, especially in Colorado wind and snow, so it's best to remove them promptly.

Is cleanup included with tree removal?

Yes. Cleanup is included on every Woodgate job. We haul away branches, logs, and debris and leave your yard clean. Stump grinding is a separate service you can add to the same visit.

Does tree removal include removing the stump?

Standard tree removal cuts the trunk close to the ground and leaves the stump. Stump grinding is a separate service, and most customers add it so the area is ready for sod, plants, or a new tree.

Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Colorado?

Most trees on private residential property don't require a permit, but rules vary by town, and many HOAs require approval before removal. Trees in the public right-of-way may have separate rules. Check with your HOA and town before removing a tree, and ask us if you're unsure what to look for.

How long does a tree removal take?

Most single residential tree removals take a few hours to a full day, including cleanup. Large trees, trees over structures, and multi-tree projects can take longer. We'll give you a realistic timeline with your free estimate.

Tree Trimming & Pruning

How often should trees be trimmed?

Most mature shade trees benefit from pruning every three to five years. Young trees do best with light structural pruning every year or two. Trees close to roofs, driveways, and walkways may need clearance trimming more often.

When is the best time to trim trees in Colorado?

For most deciduous trees, the dormant season from late fall through late winter is the best time for routine pruning. Dead, broken, or hazardous limbs should be removed any time. Avoid heavy pruning of pines during warm months, which can attract bark beetles.

What's the difference between trimming and pruning?

The terms are often used interchangeably. Pruning usually means selective cuts for tree health and structure, like removing dead or crossing branches. Trimming usually means cutting back growth for clearance and appearance. Woodgate provides both.

Do you top trees?

No. Topping, or cutting main branches back to stubs, weakens trees, invites decay, and produces weak regrowth that breaks easily. When a tree needs to be smaller, we use proper reduction cuts instead.

Can trimming save a tree instead of removing it?

Often, yes. Removing dead wood, thinning a heavy canopy, or cutting back a problem limb can fix many issues without removing the whole tree. We'll always tell you honestly if trimming is enough.

Can you trim branches hanging over my roof?

Yes. Roof and structure clearance is one of our most requested trimming services. Cutting back limbs over your roof, gutters, and chimney reduces damage risk and keeps debris and critters off your home.

Does tree trimming help prevent storm damage?

Yes. Removing dead and weak limbs and reducing heavy branches lowers the load that wet snow and wind put on a tree. Well-pruned trees are far less likely to break during Colorado storms.

Can you trim pine and spruce trees?

Yes. Evergreens like ponderosa pine and Colorado blue spruce usually need lighter pruning, mostly removing dead, broken, or low branches. Timing matters with pines, and we'll recommend the right approach for your trees.

Who trims trees near power lines?

Branches touching or near power lines should be handled by your electric utility or its qualified line-clearance crews. Call your utility first. Once the line area is safe, Woodgate can trim the rest of the tree.

Stump Removal & Grinding

What's the difference between stump grinding and stump removal?

Stump grinding uses a machine to grind the stump into wood chips below ground level, leaving the roots to decay naturally. Full stump removal pulls out the stump and main root ball. Grinding is the most common choice because it's faster and less disruptive to your yard.

How deep do you grind stumps?

Stumps are typically ground several inches below ground level, enough to cover with soil and plant grass. If you plan to plant a new tree or build in that spot, let us know so we can plan the grinding depth accordingly.

Can you grind old stumps from trees removed years ago?

Yes. We grind stumps of any size, whether the tree came down yesterday or years ago, even if another company removed the tree.

Why should I remove a tree stump?

Stumps are trip hazards, get in the way of mowing, can re-sprout, and can attract insects. Grinding the stump gives you back usable yard space for sod, a garden, or a new tree.

What happens to the wood chips after stump grinding?

Grinding produces a pile of wood chips and soil. Many homeowners use the chips as mulch, or we can clean them up. Let us know your preference at the estimate.

Can I plant a new tree where the old stump was?

Yes, with good preparation. Remove the grindings, add fresh soil, and consider planting slightly off-center from the old stump. One of our customers planted a young tree in the same spot after we removed their old tree and ground the stump.

Do you need to call 811 before stump grinding?

Yes. Because stump grinding goes below ground, underground utility lines should be marked first through Colorado 811 before grinding begins. We'll make sure locates are handled as part of the job.

Can stump grinding be done the same day as tree removal?

Often, yes. Many customers combine tree removal and stump grinding into one visit. Once utility locates are complete, we can plan both together.

Land & Lot Clearing

What does land clearing include?

Woodgate's land and lot clearing removes trees, brush, and stumps from building sites, acreage, fence lines, and overgrown lots. We'll tailor the scope to your goals, whether you're preparing to build or just reclaiming usable land.

Do you clear lots for new construction?

Yes. We clear trees and brush for new homes, additions, garages, barns, and driveways, working with homeowners and builders to keep projects on schedule.

Can you clear acreage and rural properties?

Yes. We regularly work on larger properties in areas like Franktown, Larkspur, Sedalia, and The Pinery, clearing overgrowth, dead trees, and brush across acreage.

Can you clear trees along a fence line?

Yes. Fence line clearing removes trees and brush crowding or damaging fences, making room for new fencing, repairs, or easier maintenance.

Can you thin trees on my property without clearing everything?

Yes. Selective clearing removes dead, crowded, or unwanted trees while keeping the healthy trees you want to save. We'll walk the property with you and mark what stays and what goes.

Is land clearing included in your free estimates?

Yes. Land and lot clearing is planned work, so estimates are free and no-obligation. We'll walk the property, discuss your goals, and explain the scope.

Commercial & HOA Tree Service

Do you work with HOAs and property managers?

Yes. Woodgate provides dependable tree care for HOAs, property managers, and commercial properties, including trimming, removal, stump grinding, and 24/7/365 emergency response.

Do you offer emergency tree service for businesses?

Yes. Commercial and HOA clients get the same 24/7/365 emergency response as homeowners, with a real person answering the phone day or night.

Can you maintain trees in HOA common areas?

Yes. We trim, remove, and clean up trees along entrances, greenbelts, parks, walking paths, and streets in HOA common areas.

Do you provide tree service for commercial properties?

Yes. We serve office parks, retail centers, churches, schools, and other commercial properties, keeping trees safe and clear of parking lots, signs, sidewalks, and buildings.

Can you work around business hours or resident schedules?

We do our best to schedule commercial and HOA work around your operations and residents. Tell us your constraints when you request an estimate, and we'll plan around them.

Colorado Trees & Tree Health

What trees are most common in the Castle Rock and Parker area?

Common trees include ponderosa pine, Colorado blue spruce, Gambel oak, cottonwood, aspen, Siberian elm, ash, maple, honeylocust, and fruit trees like apple and crabapple. Each species has different care, pruning, and removal needs.

Why are so many pine trees dying in Colorado?

Drought stress and bark beetles are leading causes of pine decline in Colorado. Beetles attack weakened trees, and once a pine is heavily infested it usually can't be saved. Dead pines should be removed promptly before they become a safety hazard.

How can I tell if my tree is dead?

Signs of a dead tree include no leaves or needles during the growing season, brittle branches that snap easily, bark falling off, and no green tissue under the bark when lightly scratched. Pines turning red or brown from the top down are often dying.

Is emerald ash borer a concern for Colorado ash trees?

Yes. Emerald ash borer, an invasive beetle that kills ash trees, has been found along Colorado's Front Range. If you have ash trees showing canopy thinning or dieback, have them checked. Severely declining ash trees can become brittle and may need removal.

Why do Colorado trees break so easily in snowstorms?

Colorado's spring and early fall snows are often wet and heavy. When that snow lands on trees with leaves still attached, branches can carry far more weight than they're built for. Weak branch unions, dead wood, and dense canopies make breakage worse.

What should I do with my trees after a heavy snow?

Gently brush snow off small, reachable branches from below. Don't shake trees or climb ladders near loaded limbs. Afterward, look for split trunks, hanging limbs, and new leans, and call Woodgate if you see damage.

Are Siberian elms and cottonwoods prone to breaking?

Yes. Siberian elms and cottonwoods grow fast and are common across the Front Range, but they tend to have weaker wood and are prone to dropping limbs in wind and snow. Regular trimming helps, and mature trees near homes should be inspected.

Can a leaning tree be saved?

It depends. A tree that has grown with a gradual lean for years is often stable. A new or sudden lean, especially with cracked or lifting soil at the base, can signal root failure and usually means removal. We'll inspect it during a free estimate.

Estimates, Scheduling & What to Expect

Do you offer free estimates?

Yes. Woodgate offers free, no-obligation estimates on all planned tree work. We visit your property, look at your trees, explain your options, and answer your questions at no charge.

How do I schedule a free estimate?

Call 303-875-6957 any time, or fill out the short estimate form on our website. Tell us what you're seeing, and we'll set up a time to walk the property with you.

Do I need to be home for the estimate?

It's helpful but not always required. Being there lets us talk through your goals in person. If you can't be home, let us know which trees you're concerned about and how to access them.

How should I prepare my yard for tree work?

Move vehicles, patio furniture, grills, planters, and toys away from the work area. Make sure gates are unlocked, keep pets inside, and let neighbors know if work is near a shared fence or driveway.

Do you haul away the wood and debris?

Yes. Cleanup and debris removal are included on every job. If you'd like to keep some of the wood for firewood, just let us know before work begins.

Will your equipment damage my lawn?

We take care to protect your property. We plan access routes, use protective measures where needed, and keep heavy equipment off sensitive areas whenever possible. Customers regularly tell us we left their yard better than we found it.

Can you combine multiple services in one visit?

Yes. Many jobs combine services, like tree removal plus stump grinding, or trimming several trees in one visit. We'll plan it all together whenever we can.

Do you work year-round?

Yes. Woodgate works year-round in Colorado, and winter is an excellent time for many pruning and removal jobs. Emergency service is available 24/7/365.
